Reflecting on ReFrame Conference 2024
As we look forward to our next gathering together (stay tuned for updates soon!), we reflect on our energizing celebration of the importance of home repair and preservation.
ReFrame Conference 2024, the Coalition for Home Repair's 14th annual conference for home repair programs, was held in Detroit, Michigan and virtually from November 13-15th. It was our first conference held outside of Tennessee, and our first gathering to surpass 200 attendees. Attendees represented over 100 organizations from across the country, with nearly half attending the conference for the first time.
More than 35 attendees joined City Institute on a Community Tour of Detroit, which featured visits to Cafe Rosa, the Guardian Building, and Central Detroit Christian. Thank you to members Jerry Zuniga, Ingrid Thompson, and Kisha McDowell for the great tour photos below!
ReFrame Conference 2024 also included a cocktail hour ceremony celebrating our Pinnacle Awards winners Good Neighbors, Jason McCullough, Senator John Fetterman, and our National Partners of Excellence.
Insightful keynote sessions from Carlos Martín of Harvard JCHS and Chris Lambert of Life Remodeled focused on national home repair research and organizational capacity building, respectively. Natasha Moodie of HAC, Ashley Clark of Detroit Future City, and Marilyn Mullane of Michigan Legal Services also presented their innovative programs addressing tangled titles in their keynote panel session, Untangling Titles for Economic Equity. With over 25 breakout sessions, ReFrame Conference brought together practitioners in the field to share their expertise on a wide range of topics relating to home repair. Some top-rated sessions included:
- CDBG Programs: Identifying Partners, Managing Expectations, & Delivering Outcomes with Jason McCullough, Brothers Redevelopment
- Aligning Advocacy Narratives with Impactful Program Scaling and Development Strategies with Katie Vorce and Brittney Crenshaw, Habitat MontDelCo
- Bathroom Remodel Opportunities with HopeBUILDERS and Brothers Redevelopment
- Understand Outcomes. Amplify Impact. with Dr. Stefanie Barnette, Habitat of York County
- Collaborative Evaluation of the Impact of Home Repairs and Modifications on Falls in Older Adults: Lessons Learned and Next Steps with Dr. Bethesda O'Connell, East Tennessee State University
- Working with Residents to Control Pests Safely with Jayne Windham, Livable Housing
... and many more!
We want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to all of the speakers, attendees, exhibitors, sponsors, conference planning committee volunteers, and hotel staff who helped make this such a successful conference. The conference is a highlight of each year for us, and we could not do it without our amazing members!
Together in Service,
