Coalition for Home Repair to Bolster Operations with $400,00 Grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation

August 14, 2023, Jonesborough, TN - The Coalition for Home Repair will strengthen its operations and pursuit of strategic goals with the support of a $400,000 grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.

As the nation faces a shortage of affordable housing units, the Coalition’s board of directors has set substantial growth and programmatic goals to support preservation of owner-occupied housing stock. This $400,000 award, the largest grant received in Coalition history, will be critical for implementation of those strategic goals. The Coalition plans to hire additional staff and invest in operational infrastructure to support and expand programming for its 110 nonprofit members across the United States. Programming includes ongoing professional development, pass-through funding for home repairs, technical training, programming and research, and advocacy support.

Freyja Harris, Coalition executive director, shares, “We are honored to receive support from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to pursue our shared goal of improving the health and wellbeing of all Americans. This infusion of resources will enable the Coalition to support home repair nonprofits to deepen their impact in communities nationwide by tackling the homeownership gap from the post-purchase side. Purchase is just the beginning of the homeownership journey; we are committed to reducing the number of households who may lose their homes without resources to make them safe, healthy, and livable.”

“We’re excited to support the work of the Coalition for Home Repairs, whose commitment to preserving homeowners’ economic stability and health through home preservation and repairs is timely and essential,” said Akobe Sandy, Impact Investment Officer at the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. “A safe and well-maintained home is a building block for physical and mental wellbeing, and can help individuals and families achieve their best health.”
