Coalition Launches Digital Housing Equity Toolkit

Posted By: Emma Carrasco Advocacy Resources, News,

The Coalition for Home Repair published a digital Housing Equity Toolkit on January 31, 2025. The Housing Equity Toolkit serves as a hub for reports, case studies, articles, and fast facts to equip and empower housing advocates to drive policy change and promote housing equity at local, state, or federal levels.

While homeownership has long been recognized as a primary pathway to wealth-building, many Black and minority families continue to be disproportionately affected by discriminatory practices that limit their ability to purchase, maintain/repair, insure, and recover from disasters. These challenges are not isolated but part of a broader history of racial inequity in housing that persists today.

The Equity Toolkit is housed in the Advocacy Resource Library on the Coalition's website. The Advocacy Resource Library was established in 2024 to serve Coalition members and other housing advocates. The Equity Toolkit will be updated regularly.

In addition to the Equity Toolkit, the Advocacy Resource Library houses topical resources on other issues such as housing older adults, housing policy resources, databases, articles, reports, and more. These resources align with Coalition policy goals to help build partnerships, equip members and housing advocates to build partnerships, raise public awareness for housing equity, and mobilize support for home repair programs and funding.

In alignment with our goals to expand access to home repair programs nationwide, this toolkit and all resources housed in the Advocacy Resource Library are available at no cost to home repair nonprofits, community leaders, and partners.

"It's more important than ever to advocate for housing equity," shared Freyja Harris, Coalition for Home Repair Chief Executive Officer. "As critical federal funding faces the threat of cuts and elimination, it puts many people with low income at risk of losing important programs connected to housing, food, childcare, and healthcare. These programs are not luxuries but essential to help households survive and bridge the equity gap to thrive."

If home repair organizations want to join us beyond advocacy, they’re invited to join Coalition for Home Repair membership, which provides free training opportunities, networking, and leadership development opportunities.
