Community Housing Coalition of Madison County named as Pinnacle of Excellence Award Winner
KINGSPORT, Tenn. – November 9, 2023 The Coalition for Home Repair, the national coalition for home repair organizations in the United States, recently honored the Community Housing Coalition of Madison County (CHC) with the Pinnacle of Excellence Award.
The Pinnacle of Excellence Award was presented in recognition of excellence in program management, homeowner services, operational efficiencies, communications, and volunteer engagement. Notable achievements include developing formal partnerships with four complementary Madison County, North Carolina service providers, increasing weatherization and accessibility improvements to clients by 23%. The Neighbors Helping Neighbors program was honored in 2022 by the NC Housing Finance Agency for excellence in housing, citing its ability to effectively deploy resources in rural areas and leverage those resources with volunteers. CHC has repaired over 1,200 homes in its 21 year history.
“We are pleased to recognize the commitment of CHC to repair homes in Madison County, North Carolina, said Freyja Harris, Coalition for Home Repair executive director. “Safe, healthy, affordable homes are fundamental to thriving communities. CHC is meeting that need with a home repair program carried out with excellence deserving of recognition from their peers across the nation.”
CHC joined the Coalition for Home Repair in 2018. CHC staff members have participated in various Coalition-led trainings programs including the Aging-in-Place cohort and ReFrame Conference.
"We are deeply honored to receive this award from the Coalition of Home Repair,” said Chris Watson, CHC executive director. “Our heartfelt gratitude goes out to our generous Madison County community, especially to our clients who entrust their homes and well-being to our care. We extend our sincere thanks to our invaluable partners—our service providers, local business sponsors, and state and regional program funding partners. It is through these collaborative efforts and partnerships that we can truly make a lasting impact, advancing the cause of safe, healthy, and affordable housing for every member of our community."
