Good Neighbors Home Repair named as Pinnacle of Excellence Award Winner
Detroit, MI – The Coalition for Home Repair, the national coalition for home repair organizations in the United States, recently honored the Good Neighbors Home Repair with the Pinnacle of Excellence Award.
The Pinnacle of Excellence Award was presented in recognition of excellence in program management, homeowner services, operational efficiencies, communications, and volunteer engagement. Notable achievements include their work to help older adults age in place. They recently implemented a repair program to reduce falls for outpatient seniors similar to the CAPABLE (Community Aging in Place – Advancing Better Living for Elders) model from Johns Hopkins. They are a member of the PA Whole Home Repairs Act pilot program, where they partner with other area home repair organizations. Good Neighbors model is to gather together the resources of local churches, businesses, civic groups, municipalities, and other key partners to implement its mission. They have repaired over 1,200 homes in their 30-year history and currently serve around 250 families annually.
“We are pleased to recognize the commitment of Good Neighbors to repair homes in three counties, two in Pennsylvania and one in Delaware,” said Freyja Harris, Coalition for Home Repair executive director. “Safe, healthy, affordable homes are fundamental to thriving communities. Good Neighbors is meeting that need with a home repair program carried out with excellence deserving of recognition from their peers across the nation.”
Good Neighbors joined the Coalition for Home Repair in 2017. Good Neighbors staff members have participated in various Coalition-led training programs including the Aging-in-Place cohort and ReFrame Conference.
“We are very thankful that you have selected Good Neighbors as the Pinnacle Award winner in 2024. We have learned so much from the other members of the Coalition that has helped us improve and grow to serve more people in need. We are appreciative of the leadership that the Coalition has shown in their advocacy and their willingness to obtain government grant funds for the Coalition members,” said Harold Naylor, Executive Director for Good Neighbors.
