Senator John Fetterman named as 2024 Advocate of the Year

Detroit, MI – November 15, 2024 The Coalition for Home Repair, the national coalition for home repair organizations in the United States, recently honored Senator John Fetterman (D-Pennsylvania) as the 2024 Advocate of the Year.

The Advocate of the Year Award is awarded to a federal or state legislator who has displayed a strong commitment to supporting affordable housing. Senator Fetterman was nominated for his many legislative accomplishments – most notably for introducing the Whole Home Repairs Act of 2024, which if passed, would help low-income households with essential home repairs, streamlining access to existing federal, state, and local home repair programs and assistance with navigating and leveraging these funding sources for home repair, more efficiently and effectively. This bipartisan legislation would help strengthen housing preservation as a key strategy in proactively addressing the national housing crisis.

Earlier this year, Senator Fetterman helped secure over $100 million in funding for congressionally directed spending to support 99 projects spanning from upgrading local infrastructure, expanding access to healthcare and building and preserving affordable housing in Pennsylvania.

Senator Fetterman has also been a strong, long-standing advocate for robust funding for housing at the local, state, and federal levels – addressing a wide range of housing and community development needs such as through the Community Development Block Grant and the National Housing Trust Fund. His advocacy and legislative action reflect an unwavering commitment to addressing housing challenges, promoting housing affordability, and improving living conditions for residents in Pennsylvania and across the nation.

“Senator John Fetterman’s commitment to affordable housing and home repairs made him a

strong candidate for 2024 Advocate of the Year” said Freyja Harris, Coalition for Home Repair executive

director. “Safe, healthy, affordable homes are fundamental to thriving communities. Senator Fetterman’s

advocacy efforts have helped Coalition members across the nation ensure low-income households can

access home repair programs.”
