KINGSPORT, Tenn – November 9, 2023 The Coalition for Home Repair, the national coalition for home repair organizations in the United States, recently honored Senator Tammy Baldwin (D-Wisconsin) as the 2023 Advocate of the Year.

The Advocate of the Year Award is awarded to a federal or state legislator who has displayed a strong commitment to supporting affordable housing. Senator Tammy Bladwin was nominated by Habitat for Humanity of Wisconsin, a Coalition for Home Repair partner. Senator Bladwin was nominated for her many legislative accomplishments including Emergency Assistance for Rural Housing, which provides $100 million, to be administered by USDA, to help people in rural communities keep their homes during the pandemic. Relief measures for section 502 and 504 direct loan borrowers which provides $39 million, to be administered by USDA, for USDA Section 502 and 504 home loans, which help low- and very-low-income borrowers purchase, repair, and rehabilitate housing in rural areas, while helping existing borrowers who are struggling to afford housing.

Senator Baldwin also supported the 2022 Inflation Reduction Act, which has allocated $8.8 billion to home efficiency rebates including solar panels, geothermal systems and heat pumps. These systems will make homeownership affordable by reducing energy costs for homeowners once installed.
